The Margaret River Chocolate Company does not support unethical practices in the cocoa industry and exclusively sources raw chocolate from reputable suppliers with strong policies on labour rights and sustainability.

Child labour remains a significant issue in cocoa-growing regions, particularly in West Africa. While children may help on family farms, exploitative and
hazardous labour practices are unacceptable. The Margaret River Chocolate Company and its major supplier, Barry Callebaut, are dedicated to eradicating child labour and supporting ethical practices in cocoa production.

As one of the world’s largest cocoa users, Barry Callebaut has invested millions annually in initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and eliminating abusive labour practices. Their Quality Partner Program in Côte d'Ivoire provides training to farmers, enhancing cocoa quality and increasing yields, thus enabling better incomes.

Barry Callebaut is also a signatory of the Harkin-Engel Protocol and works with the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), which focuses on eradicating the worst forms of child labour in cocoa production. The ICI operates in over 250 communities in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, reaching hundreds of thousands of individuals. Furthermore,
Barry Callebaut collaborates with the World Cocoa Foundation and the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation to support the Cocoa Livelihoods Program, which aims to improve the economic conditions for around 200,000 cocoa farming households
across West Africa.
